The Republic of Zambia reiterated, on May 30, its “unwavering support” for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the “only credible and realistic solution” for the settlement of the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
In a joint statement issued following talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Stanley Kakubo, Zambia affirmed its “unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Moroccan Kingdom.”
The statement reported that Kakubo “reiterated Zambia’s support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan presented by the Kingdom in 2007, which is the only credible and realistic solution for the settlement of this artificial dispute.”
The same source added that Zambia also “praised the efforts of the United Nations (UN) as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.”
On this occasion, the two ministers commended “the positive development” of relations between Morocco and Zambia, as reflected by the opening of the Zambian embassy in Rabat and the Zambian consulate general in Laayoune in October 2020.
