Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the World Climate Action Summit, on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which kicked off on December 1 in Dubai.
Upon her arrival at Expo City Dubai, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), António Guterres, and the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyane.
After posing for a picture with the Heads of State and Government and representatives of the participating countries, Her Royal Highness joined the conference hall.
The opening of this Summit featured speeches by the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), the President of the UAE, and King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
The event will witness the participation of approximately 160 Heads of State and Government and State Party representatives, who will address national declarations on how they are countering climate change issues and their countries’ plans for improving their emission reduction commitments, as the world’s temperature rises at an unprecedented rate.
COP28 is an adequate platform for achieving climate ambitions and strengthening sustainable development in the interests of both present and future generations. It also provides an opportunity for state and non-state parties to strengthen their cooperation and join their efforts on climate action.
The Conference marks the conclusion of the “Global Stocktake”, the first assessment of global progress in implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement.
