The US State Department underlined, in its annual report on human trafficking worldwide, Morocco’s “significant efforts” to combat and prevent human trafficking.
“The government demonstrated overall increasing efforts,” stressed the 2023 “Trafficking in Persons Report,” presented on June 15 by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
The report highlighted the adoption by Morocco of the National Plan to Combat and Prevent Human Trafficking 2023-2030 and the national referral mechanism for human trafficking victims, shedding light on efforts aimed at “improving law enforcement data collection efforts and disaggregating trafficking from smuggling.”
Emphasizing that Morocco has “increased overall efforts to protect trafficking victims,” the US diplomatic corps underlined that under the new national strategy, “foreign trafficking victims could benefit from various services, including reintegration assistance, education, vocational training, social services, and legal aid.”
In a similar context, the report recalled that “the national inter-ministerial anti-trafficking committee, which was administered by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and included two representatives from civil society, coordinated the government’s efforts to combat trafficking.”
The US State Department’s report also stressed that the 2023-2030 national strategy and the inherent 2023-2026 implementation plan were established “in coordination with international organizations” and “fully approved” last March.
