The Speaker of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, held talks on February 7 in Rabat with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, Vladimir Franco.
During this meeting, the two parties expressed their firm desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various areas, according to a press release.
Speaking on this occasion, Mayara praised the recent position of Panama which considered that the UN remains the appropriate mechanism to bring together all the parties concerned in the search for a political solution to this artificial dispute, describing Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the “sole basis for a just and lasting solution”.
In the same context, the Upper House Speaker affirmed that Panama’s position will inevitably boost economic, commercial, and cultural relations between the two countries.
Mayara also stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral cooperation and creating bridges between the two friendly peoples, expressing the strong willingness of Morocco’s House of Councilors to consolidate cooperation with the Panamian legislative institution.
For his part, the Panamanian official commended the special attention that Morocco pays to the development of its relations with Panama, affirming that his current visit to the Kingdom is part of the new dynamic driven by his country’s position on the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
Franco noted the imperative of attaching more importance to the parliamentary field to strengthen bilateral cooperation, through the intensification of coordination and consultation within forums and continental parliamentary groups, as well as through cultural projects between the two parties, such as “Mohammed VI Library” at the headquarters of the Parliament of Latin America and the Caribbean, which constitutes a real platform for dialogue and coexistence as well as a means of raising awareness about the Kingdom in Latin America.
In this regard, the Panamian official expressed his country’s conviction in the importance of South-South cooperation, and its desire to strengthen and diversify its partnerships within Africa to face emerging challenges.
