Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Omar Hilale, recalled, on April 8 in New York, that the Kingdom was the first country to deliver humanitarian aid directly by land for the benefit of the populations of Gaza and Al-Quds, thanks to the far-sighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al Quds Committee.
Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Hilale noted that the aid ordered by His Majesty the King for the benefit of Palestinians consists of more than 40 tons of food, including first necessities, adding that this operation coincided with the holy month of Ramadan.
In this regard, the diplomat noted that since the start of military operations more than five months ago, Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency provided food to the Maqdessis, including 2,000 baskets, in addition to 1,000 meals served daily for the inhabitants in the holy city.
The Moroccan official also called for the delivery of humanitarian aid in a safe and undisrupted manner, and in sufficient quantities to the populations of Gaza.
In the same context, Hilale reiterated Morocco’s call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as the Kingdom’s rejection of attempts to impose a new reality on the ground, affirming that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of Palestinian lands and the unified State of Palestine.
Intensifying efforts to relaunch the Middle East peace process is what the ambassador called for in order to reach a just and comprehensive settlement that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital.
On a final note, Hilale reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for Palestine’s request for full UN membership.
“Like the Arab and Islamic countries and the non-aligned movement, Morocco renews its support for Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations,” he concluded.
