The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, held talks on September 25 in Marrakech with his Ivorian counterpart, Amadou Koné, on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport and logistics.
In a statement to Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) following this meeting, held on the sidelines of the 2nd Kofi Annan Awards for Road Safety, Minister Abdeljalil stated that transport and logistics are a means of promoting economic and trade relations between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Moroccan minister added that the two countries enjoy several levers for cooperation, including the exchange of expertise in the logistics and ports sector, the strengthening of maritime connectivity between West African countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean, and the exchange of expertise and strengthening of cooperation in the field of logistics platforms.
“The flow of international road transport has been steadily increasing in recent years,” stated the Moroccan official, adding that these bilateral talks focused on ways of implementing the agreement enabling Moroccan and Ivorian transporters to work in a convenient environment to improve transport between the two countries.
For his part, Koné emphasized the importance of strengthening the maritime and land link between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire, noting that the promotion of Morocco-Ivorian trade and investment is dependent on the development of transport and logistics.
The Ivorian minister stressed the need to accelerate cooperation exchanges and development, through the sharing of expertise to give a strong impetus to bilateral cooperation in the field of logistics and transport, recalling on this occasion the conventions signed between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire in the field of transport and logistics during the visit of His Majesty King Mohammed Vl to Abidjan in 2017.
Minister Koné also stressed the importance of strengthening links between the two countries’ port infrastructures, particularly between the Tangier-Port MED and the port of Abidjan, while benefiting from Morocco’s rich expertise in this field.
