The Grand Theatre de Rabat is part of a national cultural development program initiated by King Mohammed VI in Morocco. Located on the Bouregreg river between the former twin cities of Rabat and Salé, the future national museum of archeology and earth sciences should serve to strengthen the “cultural infrastructures of the capital of the Kingdom and will constitute a masterpiece which will combine tradition and modernity, “said the director of the Bouregreg Valley Planning Agency, Lamghari Essaki, to the Moroccan daily Le Matin. Dedicated to becoming “the symbol of Morocco’s cultural renewal”, designed by architect Zaha Hadid.
Located on a 7-hectare plot in the Bouregreg development area, the Grand Théâtre de Rabat will feature a futuristic design inspired by the energy of the river and embodied in the fluid sculptural forms that can be found in the main hall and the molding of the grand staircases. The main room will be designed according to a geometry inspired by traditional Moroccan muqarnas.
This € 120 million project provides for the construction of an 1,800-seat theater, an open-air amphitheater with a capacity of 7,000 people, rehearsal spaces and a restaurant for 350 people. The project will be inaugurated in early 2022 to mark.
