President of the Union of the Comoros and current Chairman of the African Union (AU), Azali Assoumani, hailed the continental leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the excellent relations linking the Kingdom and the Comoros.
During a meeting with the President of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), Latifa Akharbach, on October 3 in the Comorian capital Moroni, Assoumani praised “the continental leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the excellent relations linking the Kingdom and the Union of Comoros, and the ongoing mutual solidarity that characterizes these relations”.
According to a press release by HACA, Assoumani commended the High Authority’s commitment to the Comorian National Press and Audiovisual Council (CNPA), which is engaged in a vast program of modernization and professional upgrading.
In this regard, the Comorian President also welcomed any exchange of expertise that would enable the introduction of proactive regulation capable of promoting public communication and media practices serving the values of coexistence, tolerance, and social development.
For her part, HACA president, Latifa Akharbach, stressed that the extension of bilateral cooperation between Morocco and the Comoros to the field of autonomous media regulation is a significant contribution to the virtuous dynamic created by the South-South cooperation advocated and supported by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of a strong and united Africa.
“The establishment of concrete and operational cooperation between HACA and CNPA will boost the expertise of both countries in the field of media regulation,” stated Akharbach, stressing that the focus will be on “increasing the skills of the regulator, developing professional intelligence, adapting to the new digital media environment and promoting the citizen’s right to quality and trustworthy information.”
Speaking in her capacity as President of the African Communication Regulation Authorities Network (RIARC), Akharbach briefed the Comorian President on this pan-African platform of regulators, outlining the Network’s 2023-2024 roadmap and the major areas of debate identified on the continent in terms of audiovisual and digital regulation.
RIAC’s President also emphasized the Network’s commitment to effectively contributing to promoting the status, resources, skills, and autonomy of African regulators, enabling them to act optimally to consolidate local and national media systems and promote the continent’s informational sovereignty.
The meeting was attended by President of the Comorian National Press and Audiovisual Council (CNPA), Abubakari Boina, Director General of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), Benaissa Asloun, Moroccan Chargé d’Affaires for Comoros, Driss Alaoui, and African Affairs Manager of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), Talal Salahdine.
