The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, reiterated, on April 17 in Rabat, his country’s constant position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.
In a statement to the press following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Douglas reaffirmed his country’s support for the political process led by the United Nations (UN) which aims to reach a just and lasting solution to this regional dispute, while also describing the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only credible and realistic solution.
A joint press release published at the end of this meeting noted that the initiative is in accordance with international law, the Charter of the United Nations (UN), the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to the same press release, Saint Kitts and Nevis recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces and affirms its support for the Kingdom’s Autonomy Initiative “the only serious, credible and realistic basis” to resolve the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
The country also commended the socio-economic development witnessed across the Moroccan Sahara thanks to the efforts and investments undertaken by the Kingdom, within the framework of the New Development Model of the Southern Provinces.
As a member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECO), the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis welcomed the opening of an embassy of the Organization in Rabat on October 19, 2018, and a consulate general in Dakhla on March 31, 2022.
