WHO Road Safety Consultant, María Seguí-Gómez, hailed on February 19 in Rabat, Morocco’s efforts to reduce the number of road-related casualties.
Speaking during a session organized as part of an international seminar under the theme “Good Practices: A Source of Inspiration to Develop National Road Safety Strategies”, Seguí-Gómez noted that Morocco has managed to reduce the mortality rate by 13% since 2010.
In the same context, the expert reviewed the evolution of the road safety situation worldwide, noting that traffic accidents result in approximately 1.19 million deaths annually, with 3% occurring in Africa.
For his part, the Director General of the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), Benacer Boulaajoul, rejoiced at the selection of Morocco to host the fourth global ministerial conference on road safety, which is scheduled to take place on February 18 and 19, 2025.
This conference will shed light on the efforts invested globally to reduce the number of traffic-related casualties by 50% during the decade 2021-2030, explained Boulaajoul.
Organized by NARSA in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF), this seminar constitutes an opportunity to share and exchange the best practices relating to road safety.
The event was marked by the official launch of the “e-rokhsati.narsa.gov.ma” portal which is dedicated to individuals wishing to submit applications to renew driving licenses, obtain additional copies, or request a driving license record.
