Morocco’s progress and investments in renewable energy production have been recognized as the kingdom has ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region in the “Green Future” index published by the “MIT Technology Review”.
“Morocco ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa region in the “Green Future” index”, the Emirati channel “Sky News Arabia” reported on its website. The ranking is published by the “MIT Technology Review”, which assesses the progress made in renewable energy from 76 countries and territories.
In recent years, Morocco has deployed its energy strategy based mainly on the development of renewable energies and invested a lot of resources in order to achieve energy sovereignty.
These colossal investments committed since 2009, have aimed at ensuring the energy independence of the kingdom, as well as contributing to the reduction of gas emissions.
Morocco’s energy policy based on renewable energies has increased, in ten years, electricity production to 37%. Today, Morocco produces more than 4,000 megawatts of wind and solar energy, becoming one of the pioneers in this field. With a large solar power plant installed in Noor Ouarzazate that produces 580 megawatts and provides clean electricity to more than a million households, the Moroccan model attracts foreign investors. Not to mention that it has been emulated by the region and around the world.
Morocco intends to increase the contribution of renewable energies to the energy mix to 52% by 2030. King Mohammed VI, during his opening speech of the parliamentary session, stressed the need to achieve energy sovereignty in order to strengthen the strategic security of the kingdom.
