The proceedings of the consultative meeting between the delegations of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan High Council of State on the Electoral Law began on Thursday in Rabat.
During this two-day meeting, being held behind closed doors, the two sides will discuss the outstanding issues regarding the organization of the presidential and legislative elections, which are supposed to take place on December 24, and which are a crucial step to pull the country out of the crisis it is experiencing.
In a statement to the press after the opening session of the meeting, the US Ambassador to Libya, ‘’ Richard Norland’’, said that the representatives of both sides of the Libyan dialogue are working to lay the constitutional foundations that will allow the elections to be held on time.
In this regard, the American Diplomat appreciated the warm welcome extended to them since their arrival for this meeting, which is of paramount importance for Libya, expressing the wish that the efforts of the Kingdom, as well as those tremendous efforts made by the United Nations will result in success, with a view to holding these polls and forming a unity government for a return to normal life.
Morocco’s attempt to host the consultative meeting on the Libyan electoral law comes after a series of rounds of Libyan dialogue held in the Kingdom, and marked in particular by the agreement on the mechanism of accession to the seven posts of sovereignty provided for in Article 15 of the Libyan political agreement concluded in 2015 in the city of ‘’Skhirat’’.
