The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold, via videoconference, on July 31, the 18th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States to discuss the recurrence of incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.
The Organization reported in a statement that this emergency ministerial meeting is a follow-up of the final statement issued by the extraordinary open-ended Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah on July 2, regarding the desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden, in which it called for holding an emergency high-level meeting when necessary.
The Organization also added that the meeting also comes in light of the consultations held by the Secretary-General of the Organization, Hissein Ibrahim Taha, with Member States regarding the implementation of the final statement issued by the Executive Committee and the consideration of further measures in response to the repetition of such provocative acts, which represent a manifestation of deliberate religious hatred and intolerance.
