The Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia approved Tuesday in Ryad, under the chairmanship of HRH Prince Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, a cooperation agreement related to the peaceful use of atomic energy between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
The two countries had signed, last May, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of renewable energies and a framework agreement for cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy.
This agreement provides for cooperation in various fields, particularly basic and applied research, in addition to subjects related to nuclear reactors, including the design, construction, and operation of the nuclear fuel cycle and the management of radioactive waste.
On this occasion, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, stated that “the signing of the memorandum and the framework agreement comes in application of the directives of the leaders of the two countries, which aim to develop close relations in all fields, in particular that of energy, in a manner that supports the efforts development and economic prosperity, and contributes to enhancing energy security and supporting economic growth.”
It should be noted that the cooperation between Morocco and Saudi Arabia in relation to the peaceful use of atomic energy and renewable energies aims to meet the two countries’ need to develop new energy resources, and affirms their concern for the importance of the security of energy supplies, especially as it supports their efforts to promote the civil and peaceful use of atomic energy while preserving the environment.
