Morocco and Israel signed, on May 29, in Rabat, three cooperation agreements that cover maritime transport, reciprocal recognition of driving licenses, and road safety.
The three agreements were signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and his Israeli counterpart, Miri Regev.
The agreements include two intergovernmental agreements relating to maritime transport and reciprocal recognition of driving licenses and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of technical cooperation in road safety and sustainable mobility.
“We signed three agreements that concern the recognition of driving licenses, cooperation in maritime transport and road safety,” Regev told the press following the meeting, noting that the two parties agreed to establish a joint team dealing with issues relating to innovative technologies in transport, including smart traffic, drones, and electric or autonomous cars.
For his part, Abdeljalil stated that the Israeli minister’s visit to Morocco is an opportunity to promote cooperative relations between the two countries, adding that both parties will work to activate the previously and recently signed agreements.
The Moroccan minister also stressed that Morocco-Israel cooperative relations should be further strengthened during his next visit to Israel, scheduled for September.
Discussions between the two parties focused on promoting cooperation in rail transport and high-speed lines, airport infrastructure development, logistics platforms, and intelligent mobility (traffic management, autonomous vehicles, intelligent traffic lights, and transport technologies).
The two parties also touched on the development of air frequencies between Morocco and Israel to encourage tourism between the two countries and the digitalization of transport and promote investment by the private sector and start-ups in the transport sector.
The working visit of the Israeli minister, at the head of a large delegation, is part of the intense exchange between the Moroccan and Israeli ministries since the two sides meeting in May 2022 in Germany.
The Israeli minister is scheduled to take a themed trip by Al Boraq to Tangier, visit the port of Tangier Med, and hold talks with senior Moroccan officials.
