Morocco and China expressed Thursday in Rabat their willingness to strengthen their partnership, expand it to new strategic areas, and leverage the assets of the strategic positioning that the two countries enjoy.
The department of the Head of Government reported that this position was emphasized during a meeting between the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhao Leji, leading a large delegation.
During this meeting, which focused on the aspects of Morocco-China cooperation, the two officials praised the excellent brotherly ties uniting the two countries that will celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishing their diplomatic relations in November.
On this occasion, Akhannouch and Zhao praised the partnership between Morocco and China which reflects the commitment of the leaders of the two countries, who established their multilateral strategic partnership during the official visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in May 2016 to China at the invitation of H. E. President Xi Jinping, which was marked by the signing of several cooperation agreements in different fields.
For his part, Akhannouch expressed Morocco’s appreciation for China’s constructive position expressed before the United Nations (UN) Security Council (SC) on the Moroccan Sahara issue, reiterating Morocco’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty of States and the non-interference in their internal affairs.
The meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, several officials of committees of the Chinese National People’s Assembly, and China’s Ambassador to Morocco.
