The United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, described Morocco as a model of investment in environmental capital for its “major” achievements in the field of energy transition.
Speaking at a press conference following the opening of the Ministerial Segment of the High-Level Conference on Middle-Income Countries, on February 6 in Rabat, the UN official indicated that Morocco has made remarkable achievements in this field, through the strengthening of investments in climate initiatives, calling for the sharing of Moroccan expertise with other countries in Africa to seize arising opportunities and meet development challenges.
In this regard, J. Mohammed shed light on the flexibility of the Moroccan economy and its response to global economic and geopolitical crises, commending Morocco’s active role in partnerships aimed at the development of middle-income countries.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General added that the High-level Conference that the Kingdom hosted constitutes a platform to discuss the most important financing challenges facing the economic situation of middle-income countries, stressing the imperative to combine efforts and strengthen partnerships to serve “the enormous and pressing needs of development”.
The High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries took place on February 5 and 6 in Rabat, with the participation of 32 countries, and 23 United Nations (UN) development agencies in addition to international and regional institutions.
Held under the theme “Solutions to Address Development Challenges of Middle-Income Countries in a Changing World”, this two-day Conference is part of Morocco’s Presidency of the Group of Friends of Middle-Income Countries within the framework of the United Nations (UN), which the Kingdom has held since 2023, with the aim of advocating for the interests of developing countries, under the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
