Spanish academicians highlighted, in Seville, the relevance of the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco for the definitive settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, praising, in this regard, the development process witnessed across the Kingdom’s southern provinces.
Speaking at a debate on regionalization in the countries of the Mediterranean, organized by the Pablo Olavide University of Seville, the Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at the University of Jaén, Juan José Ruiz, and Professor of Constitutional Law at the same university, President of the Center for Social and Legal Studies in South Europe, Gerardo Ruiz-Rico, affirmed that the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, supported by the international community, provides a “just and wise” solution to this artificial dispute.
In this regard, José Ruiz described the Moroccan initiative as “credible and realistic”, which is in line with international law and which allows the populations of the Moroccan Sahara to manage their affairs under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
Ruiz also shed light on the development process underway across Morocco’s southern provinces with the aim of transforming the region into an investment destination.
For his part, Ruiz-Rico stated that Morocco has opted for peace by proposing the autonomy plan as a solution aimed at resolving a dispute that has lasted too long.
Having witnessed first-hand the economic and social development of the Kingdom’s southern provinces, the Spanish academician commended “the generosity and spirit of openness demonstrated by Morocco to resolve an artificial dispute”.
This meeting was attended by the Moroccan Consul in Seville and Moroccan experts, who focused, on this occasion, on the legal aspects relating to the Moroccan autonomy initiative, and the basic principles of advanced regionalization implemented by the Kingdom and its impact on the development of Morocco’s southern provinces.
