The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, reiterated, on December 14 in Rabat, his country’s position on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
During a joint press briefing following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Albares emphasized Spain’s unwavering position on the Sahara issue, a position “already expressed in the Joint Declaration, adopted on April 7, 2022, and the Declaration sanctioning the 12th Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting in February 2023.”
It should be recalled that the Joint Declaration states that “Spain considers the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, presented in 2007, as the most serious, realistic and credible basis” for the resolution of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, and recognizes the Kingdom’s serious and credible efforts within the framework of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable solution.
