Germany reaffirmed its position on the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, describing the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom in 2007 “as a serious and credible effort” and a “good basis for a solution accepted by both parties”.
This position was expressed in the Joint Declaration of August 25, 2022, which was adopted following the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock.
According to a press release, this position was reiterated on the occasion of the 50th session of intergovernmental negotiations on Morocco-Germany cooperation, held in Rabat on December 7 and 8.
In this context, Germany emphasizes the exclusivity of the United Nations in the political process and reaffirms its support for UN Security Council Resolution 2703, which highlights the role of the parties involved in the search for a realistic, pragmatic, lasting political solution based on compromise.
