The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, affirmed on November 15 in Tangier that the Moroccan Autonomy Plan is “the only credible and serious basis for the resolution of the regional dispute over the Sahara”.
Speaking at the opening of the 15th edition of the MEDays International Forum, Skerrit reiterated Dominica’s unwavering commitment to the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, which constitutes the only credible and serious basis for resolving the long-running conflict over the Sahara.
The Dominican PM added that the international community is increasingly supporting the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, expressing his pride in defending respect for the unity and sovereignty of states.
“I would like to seize this opportunity to express my highest gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for His leadership and the diplomatic achievements made by Morocco on the Sahara issue,” said the Dominican official, commending the opening of approximately 30 consulates general in Dakhla and Laâyoune and the growing support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan.
Skerrit stated that these achievements are the fruit of Morocco’s major diplomatic efforts at bilateral and multilateral levels, aimed at giving a new economic impetus to the Southern provinces.
Dominica’s prime minister also recalled that the political impasse concerning the Sahara issue can only be resolved through a fair and lasting solution between the parties, based on compromise, as evident in Resolution 2703 of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stressing that the Moroccan proposal embodies all these principles.
In a different context, Roosevelt expressed, on behalf of the Dominican people and all the states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), his deep gratitude to Morocco for its exceptional support for these countries, particularly in the fields of education and agriculture.
“We value the solid relations that the two regions have maintained over the years and we also welcome all initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest,” concluded the Dominican Prime Minister.
The MEDays International Forum, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, at the initiative of the Amadeus Institute, is attended by over 250 speakers, political and economic decision-makers, and over 5,000 participants representing almost 100 countries.
