The two Houses of Parliament are taking part in the 28th edition of the International Book Fair (SIEL), organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication between June 1 and 11 in Rabat, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Aware of the importance of culture and science in shaping individuals, raising awareness, and developing society, the Parliament will take part in this cultural event with “a pavilion designed to highlight the features and authenticity of the architecture of the Parliament Building.”
The Parliament reported in a press release that its participation for the second consecutive year aims to safeguard the achievements of the previous edition, which enabled the legislative institution to improve its openness and active commitment to the public that attends the Fair and participates in the establishment of a knowledgeable society, assuring that this consolidates the Kingdom’s international cultural influence.
Similar to the previous year, “visitors to the pavilion will be able to access a bibliography and electronic documentary resources developed by the Parliament to record its most significant achievements in its areas of expertise and document the highlights of its internal and external relations.”
In addition, detailed explanations will be projected and presented by parliamentary staff, who will be at visitors’ disposal during the Fair.
The press release also noted that the Parliament’s participation in this significant annual cultural event that attracts the interest of a wide cross-section of society is part of the two Houses’ “Open Parliament” approach.
This participation also seeks to promote transparency and the effective implementation of the constitutional right of access to information, and to facilitate understanding of the parliamentary institution in its composition, constitutional functions, bodies, and governance structures, subsequently raising citizens’ political awareness and institutional support, as well as their interest in public affairs and contribution to the development of democratic practice in Morocco.
