Moroccan boxer Khadija El Mardi (+81 kg) qualified, Thursday night, for the heavyweight final of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, held in New Delhi between March 15 and 26.
World runner-up El Mardi defeated Russia’s Pyatak Diana by unanimous decision, impressively dominating the 3 rounds against Pyatak who failed to resist the Moroccan boxer’s blows.
The Moroccan heavyweight champion will face, on Sunday, the Kazakh Kungeibayeva Lazzat, who won against the Azeri Rzayeva Aynur in the second semi-final.
On this occasion, El Mardi stated to the press that she is aiming for the gold medal, asserting that she will fight for the world title and for her dreams and those of all Moroccans.
The Moroccan boxer also expressed her gratitude to her coach and technical staff for their constant support, guidance, and assistance.
In a similar context, Moroccan Yassmine Moutaqui (-48 kg) was eliminated in the semi-final by Uzbek Fozilova Farzona.
In addition to Khadija El Mardi and Yassmine Moutaqui, the Moroccan boxing selection participating in these World Championships also includes Widad Bertal (-54 kg), who was eliminated in the second round by Mongolian Munguntsetseg Enkhhjargal, and Rabab Cheddar (-50 kg), who was eliminated in the quarter-finals by French Lkhaddiri Wasila.
The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, which include 12 weight categories, were marked by the participation of approximately 320 boxers representing 70 countries including Morocco.
