The Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, highlighted, on April 16, the role of culture in promoting the social conditions of the youth.
In response to an oral question at the House of Councilors on “the importance of culture in public policies”, Bensaid noted that culture can resolve numerous issues relating to employment, particularly in light of the challenges faced by certain professions due to technological development.
In this regard, the Minister noted that cultural industries can contribute to the creation of new professions, particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the gaming industry, which are currently witnessing remarkable development in the Kingdom.
Bensaid also called on elected territorial councils, including regions and municipalities, to be in charge of preserving cultural heritage and getting involved in the cultural industry through the development of local projects that will have a positive impact on the economic and social situation, while meeting the expectations of citizens.
In response to another oral question on “the measures adopted for the preservation and enhancement of the Kingdom’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage”, the official affirmed that the ministry has implemented several concrete measures capable of preserving the national heritage, notably through the monitoring and evaluation of studies and technical interventions, the inspection of historical monuments and archaeological sites, the organization and control of archaeological excavation sites and the collection of documents necessary for the production of an inventory of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, in addition to the preservation and safeguarding of national oral heritage.
In this regard, he recalled the conclusion of two partnership agreements relating to the preservation of national cultural heritage through the protection of intellectual property, between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office (OMPIC).
