In execution of the High Royal Instructions relating to the holding of the 13th Session of the Defense Consultative Committee (DCC), the Lieutenant General, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), and Commander of the South Zone, received on May 20 at the headquarters of the FAR General Staff in Rabat, the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Celeste Wallander, who is conducting a working visit to Morocco from May 17 to 22.
According to a press release from the FAR General Staff, the two officials commended, during this meeting, the solid and strategic partnership uniting the United States and Morocco, expressing their willingness to further develop these centuries-old relations in the same spirit of friendship, mutual understanding, and shared trust.
In the same context, the two officials expressed their satisfaction with their countries’ successful military cooperation, which is reflected in remarkable progress covering several fields, notably the conclusion of Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), the acquisition of equipment, training, and the organization of combined and joint military exercises, such as the “African Lion” which is currently underway in Morocco.
Other topics of interest were also discussed during this meeting, particularly security and defense challenges facing Africa, Morocco’s important role in Peacekeeping Operations and humanitarian assistance, and the fight against cross-border threats.
The meeting of the Defense Consultative Committee provides a platform to discuss crucial issues of regional security and determine the broad outlines of the future action plan with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the National Guard of the State of Utah, as well as the capacity development projects managed by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
