The first African edition of the prestigious Bloomberg New Economy Forum kicked off, on June 13 in Marrakech, under the theme “Gateway Africa,” bringing together over 200 national and international economic and political decision-makers to discuss current challenges and promote sustainable development in Africa.
After the US and Europe, Morocco was chosen as the host country for the African version of this prestigious economic forum, for its position as a regional leader thanks to the Enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him.
This major economic forum is organized by the Bloomberg media group, a leader in economic and financial information, in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE). The Forum is an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge, form strategic partnerships and explore joint responses to international economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges.
On this occasion, the Founder of the Bloomberg Media Group and former mayor of New York, Michael R. Bloomberg, stated that Africa plays a critical role in solving current global problems, such as the climate crisis, adding that Morocco is “at the center of it all.”
“Let me extend my gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Investments for bringing us to Morocco and for their support in making this event a success,” stated Bloomberg.
For his part, Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, emphasized during the forum’s inauguration that “historically, Morocco has always played a bridging role as a gateway to Africa for Europe,” noting that the Kingdom is founded on building lasting and reliable partnerships.
Sustainable development, energy transition, finance, and food security are at the heart of this two-day forum’s discussions, which sees the participation of several government officials, namely Minister of the Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and Urban Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli.
