The Republic of Malawi inaugurated its embassy in Rabat on December 18, during a ceremony co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Malawian counterpart, Nancy Tembo.
On this occasion, Minister Tembo expressed her country’s gratitude to Morocco for its collaboration in the inauguration of Malawi’s diplomatic representation, welcoming the excellent relations uniting the two countries on bilateral and multilateral levels.
In a statement to the press, the Malawian official noted that the inauguration of her country’s embassy in Morocco constitutes a new phase in the consolidation of the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and offers an opportunity to benefit from Morocco’s successful experience in various fields.
Highlighting the convergence of views of the two countries on issues of common interest, the head of Malawian diplomacy commended the Kingdom’s continued commitment to supporting Malawi in several areas.
In this regard, Tembo referred to the signing of the 2022-2024 bilateral cooperation roadmap, which illustrates the two countries’ willingness to consolidate their bilateral relations, based on mutual respect, strong partnership, and active solidarity, particularly in the areas of education and training, agriculture, trade, technical cooperation, security, economic promotion and investment, and the exchange of official visits.
For his part, Bourita stressed that the inauguration of the embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Rabat reflects the “maturity” of the bilateral relations established between Morocco and Malawi.
In the same context, the Moroccan official underlined that the inauguration of this diplomatic representation falls within the framework of the two countries’ common ambition to collaborate for their development as well as that of the continent, noting that Malawi clearly expresses its willingness to promote investment opportunities, thanks to the significant economic potential offered on both sides.
The Malawian foreign minister is on an official visit to Morocco from December 17 to 21 for the inauguration of her country’s embassy in Rabat and the operationalization of its consulate general in Laâyoune.
During her visit, Tembo will also explore the Kingdom’s southern provinces to observe the economic and social development as well as the political and democratic dynamics that this region is experiencing.
This visit will also be an opportunity to witness the progress made in terms of the implementation of the New Development Model for the Southern provinces, launched in 2015 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him.
It should be recalled that the Republic of Malawi inaugurated its consulate general in Laâyoune on July 29, 2021.
