Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, held talks on June 15 in Rabat, with a high-level delegation led by the General Secretary of the World Bank (WB), Mercy Tembon, and the General Secretary of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ceda Ogada, on the preparations for the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In a statement to the press following this meeting, Ogada praised the organization of this grand event in Morocco, stressing that the Kingdom is well prepared to welcome the world for an event “guaranteed to be a great success.”
The General Secretary of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also stated that organizing these annual meetings in an African country is an opportunity to further support developing countries, specifically in Africa, following a three-year crisis.
For her part, Tembon praised Marrakech, the city which will host this international event, assuring that all the stakeholders, notably the government, the ministerial departments, and the local authorities in Marrakech, are all mobilized to ensure the success of this meeting.
In a similar context, Fettah Alaoui reiterated the commitment of all stakeholders in Morocco to ensuring that the 14.000 representatives from the world of business and finance are welcomed in ideal conditions.
The Moroccan minister pointed out that these meetings, returning to Africa following an absence of fifty years, are a unique opportunity to make sure that Africa’s voice reaches international institutions and discuss issues relevant to the region.
In a similar context, the Moroccan official emphasized that the meetings are an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s structural reforms and achievements and to debate and exchange views with international decision-makers and experts on ways to promote international and regional cooperation.
This meeting, held in conjunction with the organization of the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which are scheduled to be held in Marrakech between October 9 and 15, is part of the regular missions that teams from the two international institutions conduct in Morocco to review the progress of this grand international event’s preparations.
