Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, held talks on Monday with the President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation.
On this occasion, Talbi Alami and Sobotka discussed the consolidation of the bilateral ties linking the legislative institutions of the two countries. In this regard, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the House of Representatives and the Austrian National Council, develop parliamentary and administrative relations, and strengthen dialogue, consultation and coordination on issues of common interest.
Talbi Alami and Sobotka commended the deep and strong relations uniting Morocco and Austria, expressing their pride in the commemoration of the 240th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as the distinguished dynamics characterizing said relations.
The meeting and closing ceremony of the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was attended by the President of the Austria-North Africa Parliamentary Group at the Austrian National Council, Nico Marchetti, Austria’s Ambassador to Morocco, Anna Jankovic, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee at the House of Representatives, Nadia Bouaida, and the Chairperson of the Morocco-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group, Abdellah Ghazi.
Talbi Alami and Sobotka affirmed the mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, as well as the centrality of the United Nations process in resolving international conflicts through peaceful means. In this regard, the Austrian side reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan to resolve the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, considering it a serious and credible solution in accordance with the principles and resolutions of the United Nations (UN).
