A police officer from the anti-gang brigade at the Laâyoune police headquarters in the Moroccan Sahara was forced, on Saturday evening, to use his service weapon, during a security intervention to arrest a repeat offender who was in a state of strong impulsiveness. and exposed the safety of citizens and elements of the police to a serious and dangerous attack using knives.
A police patrol had intervened to arrest this 34-year-old suspect who sowed anarchy on the public highway in the company of another individual, indicates a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), specifying that the two individuals deliberately put up fierce resistance to the security elements using knives and throwing stones, thus injuring a police brigadier in the head.
Faced with this situation, a peacekeeper among the elements of the patrol was forced to use his service weapon by firing a bullet that hit the suspect in his lower limbs.
The use by this police officer of the service weapon made it possible to arrest the defendant and neutralize the danger, adds the same source, noting that the defendant was placed under medical supervision at the local hospital to receive the necessary care in the same way as the injured police officer, pending the submission of the judicial inquiry conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to determine the ins and outs of this case.
The search is continuing to arrest the second suspect who has been identified, the statement concludes.
