Japan’s Ambassador to Morocco, Kuramitsu Hideaki, expressed his country’s determination to continue active action towards “even closer” cooperation with Morocco.
In a recently published interview with “Les Inspirations Eco”, the Japanese diplomat stressed that the Kingdom is “an important partner” for his country that will help strengthen relations with other countries in the Middle East and Africa.
In this regard, Hideaki described cooperation between the two countries as “multifaceted”, noting the remarkable development of relations between Morocco and Japan in recent years, in the economic field, with more than 70 Japanese companies operating in Morocco, resulting in the creation of over 50,000 jobs.
In the same context, the Ambassador indicated that Japan implements development cooperation projects in multiple methods, including funding, mainly through yen loans, with technical cooperation for human resources development, sending Japanese JICA volunteers, and support for local micro-projects.
“The goal is to stimulate the pursuit of economic development and the development of Morocco,” he explained.
Regarding joint initiatives and projects in renewable energy, the diplomat noted that many Japanese companies pay great attention to the Kingdom’s remarkable potential in this area and that they plan to invest in sea water desalination projects using renewable energies.
Reffering to Morocco’s role as a gateway to Africa, the diplomat affirmed that the Kingdom continues to strengthen its comparative advantage as a “hub and center of production and logistics” connecting Africa to various countries and regions, notably by consolidating high-level infrastructure.
On a similar note, Hideaki expressed his country’s willingness to continue supporting Morocco in several sectors, highlighting in this regard, three main areas of cooperation, namely strengthening economic competitiveness, promoting social development that takes into account inclusiveness and sustainability; and the promotion of South-South cooperation.
