Members of the “SmartiLab” research and development laboratory affiliated with the Moroccan School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI) won two gold medals and two grand prizes at the 2023 International Invention Innovation Competition (iCAN 2023), held between August 23 and 26 in Toronto.
The Moroccan School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI) stated in a press release that at this major global scientific event, which included fifty countries from all over the world and featured the presentation of over 800 inventions, its “SmartiLab” laboratory was honored with two gold medals for two highly significant innovations, namely a smart wastewater treatment plant and a meat quality verification system.
The press release explained that the “Smart Wastewater Treatment Plant” (SGWT) aims to revolutionize wastewater recycling by developing an innovative solution based on a green, intelligent, and mobile wastewater treatment plant, adding that the plant is characterized by its compact design, robustness, and ease of transport, as well as its ability to adapt to the quality and type of water to be treated.
EMSI also stated that the “Meat Quality Verification System” (SMT) is an innovation offering a simple and rapid solution for controlling the quality of different types of meat based on sophisticated meat quality analysis mechanisms supported by specialized integrated units.
The press release also noted that EMSI’s achievements are a testament to the collective efforts of its departments, involving teacher-researchers as well as engineering and management students, adding that the school strives to interact with current data to transform it into scientific insights.
The same source underlined that research is conducted in a multitude of ways to promote ideas and assess the readiness of projects, recalling the invention of an intelligent wastewater treatment plant arising from interaction with current circumstances and the global water crisis.
The project to invent a meat quality verification system was created in response to the health and safety issues associated with meat intended for human consumption, particularly in the period leading to Eid Al-Adha, when meat quality was a major concern.
The press release added that it is “important to emphasize that EMSI attaches great importance to research, development, and innovation, and invests major scientific efforts on the national and international scales to represent Morocco in international arenas and consolidate the Kingdom’s presence in world rankings.”
EMSI has developed dozens of inventions that have modestly but effectively contributed to enriching the Moroccan intellectual property portfolio and improving the Kingdom’s position in global innovation rankings.
The Moroccan School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI) has won eighty-five national and international awards and medals thanks to its notable participation in events such as iCAN in Canada, Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF), China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF), Istanbul International Inventions Fair (ISIF), International Invention and Innovation Show INTARG in Poland, European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT) in Romania, AsianInvent in Singapore (AiSG), International Invention Trade Expo London (ITE), Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies (Archimedes), Innovation Design Research International Symposium (IDRIS) in Malaysia, in addition to other international competitions and exhibitions.
