His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan chaired, on November 22, the installation of the new members of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, on the occasion of the opening of the first session of this prestigious institution under its new configuration.
On this occasion, His Majesty King Mohammed VI addressed a message to the members of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, which was read out by the Academy’s Permanent Secretary, Abdeljalil Lahjomri.
In His Message, the Sovereign stressed that the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco has become a leading institution for the promotion of thought and scientific research and a privileged space for cultural exchange between continents.
“A hub for the development of intellectual capacities and academic skills in the humanities and social sciences, it contributes to research progress and the preservation of the Kingdom’s centuries-old historical and civilizational heritage,” stated His Majesty the King.
The message also noted that His Majesty has “been working since 2015 to improve the Academy’s operational structures and renew its organizational architecture”.
The Sovereign stressed that these efforts have been carried out in full accordance with the aims and provisions of the Kingdom’s Constitution, which seeks to preserve our national identity, taking into account its Arab-Islamic, Amazigh, Saharan-Hassanian components and its African, Andalusian, Hebrew, and Mediterranean tributaries.
In an address on behalf of the resident members of the Academy, Mohamed Sghir Janjar shed light on the special attention that His Majesty the King attaches to this prestigious institution and the Sovereign’s commitment to promoting it to fulfill its mission and achieve its cognitive and civilizational objectives.
Referring to this session’s theme, “The Family and the Crisis of Values”, Janjar stressed that the “crisis of values” challenge is no longer limited to developed industrialized societies, but also concerns other societies on the southern shores of the Mediterranean, which are undergoing radical changes, particularly linked to demographic transition, the rapid and intense exodus of people from the countryside to the cities, and the generalization of education.
Speaking on behalf of the Academy’s associate members, Senegalese Souleymane Bachir Diagne emphasized the importance of this session’s main theme, noting that “this subject is at the heart of the different questions posed by the situation we live in in all countries and latitudes”.
Diage added that in the reflections that will be carried out on this subject, emphasis will be placed on the family for the responsibility and the eminent role that it plays, and from which it cannot shirk, noting that instead of simply accusing the family of resigning and thus of being a factor in the crisis of values, the focus will be on how the family itself is exposed to the destructive impact of the economic and social crisis that is spreading everywhere as a result of neoliberal globalization, which is perpetuating inequalities within and between nations.

Upon his arrival at the headquarters of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan reviewed a detachment by the Royal Guard that paid him the honors, before being greeted by the Academy’s Permanent Secretary, Abdeljalil Lahjomri, the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Mohamed Yacoubi, President of the regional Council, Rachid El Abdi, the Academy’s Executive Director, Bachir Tamer, the Academy’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mohamed Kettani, as well as by Chairwoman of Sessions at the Academy, Rahma Bourqia, and the Academy’s Rapporteur, Mustapha Zebakh.
