Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, stated, on May 21 in Geneva, that Morocco has strengthened its local production capacities to ensure an adequate supply of essential medical resources and strategic stocks.
In his speech on the occasion of the 76th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), Akhannouch said that Morocco has steadily pursued the implementation of effective public policies which meet the needs of Moroccans, in line with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
On this occasion, Akhannouch underlined, through a video intervention, that Morocco’s post-Covid-19 reforms focus on the establishment of a resilient health system, stressing the need to ensure equitable access to vaccines in Morocco and other African countries as part of south-south cooperation.
The Head of Government also explained that Morocco has placed the health sector at the center of its government policy, with a firm commitment to a comprehensive reform to transform the health system to align with the Kingdom’s significant progress.
“The generalization of medical coverage to all Moroccans, which is ongoing since December 2022, reflects Morocco’s reforms and marks a profound societal revolution in the Kingdom,” stated Akhannouch.
The Head of Government also explained that the Kingdom “has developed a comprehensive strategy to increase the number of health professionals from 17.4 per 10.000 citizens to 24 by 2025, and to 45 by 2030,” recalling that this ambitious project respects the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendations.
“We have also allocated additional resources to the health sector, increased the salaries of doctors, modernized health facilities, and digitized the sector,” added the Moroccan official.
The 76th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) takes place between May 21 and 30 under the theme “WHO at 75 years: Saving Lives, Driving Health for All.”
The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). Delegations from WHO member states attend the assembly where they focus on a specific health-related agenda drafted by the Executive Board.
The Assembly’s main functions include determining the policy of the organization, appointing the Director-General, controlling financial policy, and examining and approving the WHO budget.
The 76th session of the assembly includes a series of strategic roundtables organized, with the participation of delegates from the World Health Assembly (WHA), partner institutions, civil society representatives, and WHO experts who will discuss current and future priorities for public health matters of global importance.
