His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, inaugurated on Friday at the Gueznaya Urban Commune (Tangier-Assilah Prefecture), the “University Hospital Center (CHU) Mohammed VI”, a medical center that will enable the supply of care at the level of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the employment of new medical skills and the launch of cutting-edge training for new generations of professionals.
This Hospital Centre testifies to the particular interest that His Majesty grants to the health sector, notably through the development of hospital infrastructures, and the strengthening and improvement of health services, bringing them closer to citizens.
The new Centre also attests to the central role that the Sovereign grants to the training of human resources in this vital sector and His determination to provide them with quality training adapted to the scientific and technological developments that have taken place in terms of treatment, prevention, health management and governance, in accordance with international standards.
With a capacity of 797 beds, the new CHU of Tangier is at the heart of an ecosystem dedicated to health. The facility stretches over 23 hectares (110,000 m2 covered) adjacent to the Regional Oncology Center, close to the Higher Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques (ISPITS), and bordered to the northeast by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
A new generation care structure, the “CHU Mohammed VI” in Tangier has mobilized investments of more than 2.4 billion dirhams, financed by the state and the Qatari Fund for Development. The Centre aims to abide by the principles of sustainability and energy efficiency, through the installation of photovoltaic panels, the construction of a laboratory wastewater treatment plant, and another plant for the treatment of solid medical waste.
This Hospital Center will fulfill several care, training, research, expertise and innovation, and public health missions. It includes, for this purpose, a Specialty Hospital (586 beds) housing a “medico-surgical” center, pneumology, hematology, endocrinology, cardiology, ENT, neurology, nephrology, ophthalmology departments, and nuclear medicine, in addition to an “Emergency and Resuscitation” center with an emergency service for adults, an intensive care unit for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. It also includes units for the treatment of sleep disorders, bone marrow transplantation, obesity, and cardiovascular rehabilitation.
The “CHU Mohammed VI” of Tangier also houses a “Mother and Child” Hospital (211 beds) comprising a medico-surgical center, an “Emergency and Resuscitation” center, a pediatric service, and a medical assistance unit for procreation (MAP).
Moreover, the University Hospital Center is equipped with an emergency medical aid service (SAMU), a Trauma Center, a medical imaging service, and a department for bacteriology/microbiology, hematology, anatomy, pathological cytology, molecular genetics, and 3D printing of medical devices (LABFAB).
It also includes an operating platform (31 rooms) equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The CHU is also equipped with a central pharmacy (with a robotic system for the storage and automated distribution of pharmaceutical products for the benefit of patients in the various hospital departments), educational and training areas, a large conference room, a heliport, and other administrative and technical dependencies.
As part of the optimization of the quality of patient care, the new University Hospital Center is equipped with a Hospital Information System, an integrated digital device, based on the concept of the digital and shared patient file which brings together all of the patient’s data: administrative data, medical records, and care records.
Available both in primary health care establishments and in hospitals, this device, which is one of the pillars of the overhaul of the national health system, will enable health professionals to have access at any time, via a card or/and a wristband given to the patient, to the latter’s medical data, with the aim of accelerating medical care and ensuring efficiency.
In line with the objectives of the “Tangier-Métropole” Program, “Mohammed VI University Hospital Center” in Tangier comes in addition to the various development projects launched by the Sovereign at the level of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, with the aim of strengthening its influence and attractiveness internationally.
