His Majesty King Mohammed VI stated, in a message addressed to the participants in the 1st edition of “National Industry Day,” which kicked off Wednesday in Casablanca, that Morocco has become an inevitable global destination for advanced sectors.
In this message, which was delivered by Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, His Majesty the King stressed that the national industry’s success is based on global economic openness and relies on ambitious strategies that are clearly defined and applied within the framework of a comprehensive territorial vision.
His Majesty the King cited, as an example of this success, the automotive sector in which the Kingdom has become a continental leader, as well as the aviation sector in which Morocco provides a desirable platform for the manufacturing of equipment, components, and spare parts.
The Sovereign further added that over the past two decades, Morocco’s industrial sector has witnessed significant progress, noting that these strategies were designed to establish industry as a crucial lever for economic development in Morocco, a major source for the creation of jobs, a facilitator for productive investment and exports, and a medium for growth and development for the benefit of citizens.
The Sovereign added that these strategies were accompanied by the development of industrial, logistical, and energy infrastructure, as well as structural reforms to improve the business climate, reinforce qualifications and skills, and boost the competitiveness of the Moroccan industry.
In this regard, His Majesty the King noted that thanks to the Kingdom’s political and macro-economic stability, industrial expertise, and geographical proximity to promising markets, the Moroccan industry has managed to position itself on high technical professions and specializations, thus becoming an engine for growth, production, and export.
In a similar context, the Sovereign emphasized that the Kingdom strengthened its position as a major contributor to food security in the world by developing the fertilizer industry, which provides farmers with reasonably priced high-quality products that take into account soil and crop needs in each region.
“Our food industry has also been contributing to the development of Morocco’s fisheries and agricultural resources and the consolidation of the country’s food sovereignty,” said His Majesty the King.
As for the textile and leather sector, the Sovereign stated that this sector has benefited from the changes in global value chains by focusing on sustainable, greater added value market segments, noting that the resilience of Moroccan industry was strengthened by the growth dynamics experienced in all of these sectors and others, particularly in exports.
“These sectors contributed to mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and played a crucial role in strengthening Morocco’s industrial, health, and food sovereignty,” stated the Royal message, calling for the inclusion of this National Industry Day in the calendar of major economic events, as an annual get-together for stakeholders in the field of industry.“I also want the next Industry Day sessions to be held regionally to highlight local industrial capabilities and examine the specific challenges each region faces,” concluded his Majesty the King.
