Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, received Monday in Rabat, the President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, currently on a working visit to Morocco at the head of an important delegation which includes the President of the Austria-North Africa Parliamentary Friendship group, Nico Marchetti.
A statement from the Head of the Government’s department reported that during their meeting, Akhannouch and Sobotka praised the positive friendship and historical cooperation between Morocco and Austria, having recently commemorated the 240th anniversary of the establishment of Moroccan-Austrian diplomatic relations.
Akhannouch and Sobotka also emphasized the positive outcome of the official visit of Austrian Chancellor, Karl Nehammer, to Morocco in late February, at the head of a large delegation, which was marked by the hosting of the Morocco-Austria Economic Forum which offers promising prospects for economic partnership between the two countries.
Akhannouch expressed his appreciation for Austria’s position regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, which was reiterated by the Austrian Chancellor during his visit to Morocco, where he expressed his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as a basis for a solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, describing Morocco’s efforts in this framework as serious and credible.
The Head of Government also stressed that the visit of the President of the Austrian National Council to the Kingdom enshrines the historical relations between Morocco and Austria, and reinforces the positive development of cooperation in its political, economic, and cultural dimensions.
