According to American magazine Global Finance, the Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), Abdellatif Jouahri, is one of the world’s top central bankers.
In its latest report entitled “Central Banker Report Cards 2023,” Global Finance rated the Moroccan banker an “A-.” Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) is the only central bank in the Arab world included in this ranking.
Published annually by Global Finance since 1994, the “Central Banker Report Cards” assesses central bank governors in one hundred and one key countries, territories, and regions, including the European Union (EU), the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), and the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).
In a press release, Global Finance Publisher and Editorial Director, Joseph Giarraputo, stressed that the battle against inflation, fueled by pent-up demand and disrupted supply chains, has led the world to turn to central bankers for help.
Global Finance’s founder also noted that the magazine’s annual rankings pay tribute to bank governors whose strategies have surpassed those of their peers through originality, creativity, and persistence.
According to the magazine, the grades awarded are ranked on a scale from “A” to “F”, and take into account performance in terms of inflation control, economic growth targets, monetary stability, and interest rate management. Grade “A” represents an excellent performance while grade “F” is considered an abject failure.
The other central bankers with “A-” ratings included in this year’s report cards include Leonardo Villar (Colombia), Hector Valdez Albizu (Dominican Republic), Asgeir Jonsson (Iceland), Perry Warjiyo (Indonesia), Victoria Rodriguez Ceja (Mexico), Ida Wolden Bache (Norway), Lesetja Kganyago (South Africa), Rhee Changyong (South Korea) and Nandalal Weerasinghe (Sri Lanka).
The American magazine also stated that the full report and list of notes will be published in the October issue of Global Finance, as well as digitally at www.GFMag.com.
