Morocco reiterated, on November 9 in Paris, its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The Director General of Bilateral Relations and Regional Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Ambassador Fouad Yazourh, stressed the Kingdom’s commitment “to achieving peace, stability, and prosperity in the region”, reiterating Morocco’s “support, in coordination with all partners, for an international mobilization to bring hostilities in Gaza to an end as soon as possible”.
In a statement on behalf of Morocco at the International Humanitarian Conference for the Civilian Population in Gaza, Ambassador Yazourh reaffirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of all forms of violence against civilians, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and take collective action to put an end to the tragic and extremely dangerous situation in Gaza, which is unacceptable from a legal or humanitarian standpoint.
The Moroccan diplomat also reiterated the Kingdom’s unwavering position, expressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in His speech on the occasion of the Glorious Throne Day on July 29, 2023, on the justness of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state within the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting side by side with Israel.
The Moroccan ambassador further stated that the dangerous situation facing the Middle East region is due to the persistence of the Palestinian cause, which has remained unresolved for decades, pointing out that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital would enable the region to overcome conflict and of violence and move towards coexistence, security, peace, and prosperity.
Ambassador Yazourh called on the international community to work urgently to find a political solution conducive to achieving a just and comprehensive peace and ensuring security and stability for all the peoples of the region.
On the subject of the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, Yazourh emphasized that, as part of the firm commitment of His Majesty the King, Chairman of Al-Quds Committee, to the Palestinian cause, the Sovereign instructed, on October 23, the dispatch of emergency humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, including large quantities of food, medicine, and water, adding that this humanitarian aid was delivered to the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing.
As part of the same Royal Directives, large quantities of food and medical products were distributed on November 2 at the Palestine Red Crescent Society Hospital in Al-Quds.
Organized at the initiative of the French President Emmanuel Macron, the International Humanitarian Conference for the Civilian Population of Gaza brought together the key players involved in the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
This conference was held to address the needs of the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip, protect them, and pool international support based on the needs identified by the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
