The President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, new Chair of the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), hailed, on May 4 in Banjul, the efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al-Quds Committee, to support Palestinians and achieve the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The Gambian Head of State made this statement during his speech at the inauguration of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, held under the theme “Promoting Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development”, in the presence of heads of state and government of OIC member countries.
His Majesty the King is represented at this Summit by the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq.
The Moroccan delegation to this Summit also includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the OIC, Mustapha Mansouri, the Ambassador, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), Mohamed Methqal, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Gambia, Ahmed Belhaj, and several other officials.
The opening ceremony of this Summit took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, as well as heads of state and governments of member countries.
The 15th OIC Summit will cover political issues of interest to the Islamic world, the most important of which is the Palestinian cause.
Member State leaders will also discuss economic, humanitarian, social,, and cultural issues, including those relating to youth, women, the family, science, technology, the media, Muslim communities, the rejection of hate speech and Islamophobia, the promotion of dialogue, as well as issues relating to climate change and food security.
