Morocco won, on August 3 in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 6 medals in athletics and 4 in judo in a single day, maintaining its leading position at the 9th edition of the Francophone Games.
In athletics and para-athletics, the podium was dominated by Moroccan athletes in the women’s 5.000 meters, with Rahma Tahiri snatching gold and setting a new competition record (15:56.71), Kaoutar Farkoussi (15:57.91), and Soukaina Atanane taking home bronze (16:05.34).
In the men’s 1.500 meters, Moroccan Hicham Akankam snatched gold (3:41.08), while Hafid Rizqy snatched silver (3:41.89).
In para-athletics, Moroccan athlete Abdelkbir Jaddi won bronze in the long jump with a leap of 6.30 meters.
In judo, Hassan Doukali snatched gold in the -73kg category, while Chaimae Taibi, Hamza Kabdani, and Ziane Wissal won bronze in the -63kg, the -81kg, and the -57kg categories respectively.
Morocco has snatched a total of 38 medals, with 13 gold, 11 silver, and 14 bronze, well ahead of second-placed Romania which collected 25 medals.
The 9th edition of the Francophone Games brings together almost 2.500 young athletes, aged between 18 and 35, representing 88 countries, including Morocco, to participate in several sporting disciplines and cultural activities.
