Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, affirmed, on May 22 in Rabat, Morocco’s non-interference in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
During a press briefing following his talks with Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, Bourita reiterated “Morocco’s constant position on the respect of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries,” noting that the Kingdom is committed to prioritizing respect for the legality, international law, and the non-use of force in the settlement of conflicts, and encouraging dialogue and adherence to the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.
“Morocco is closely following the Ukraine-Russia conflict because, first, it interferes with regional security and stability, and second because of its repercussions and economic consequences that negatively impact several countries,” explained the Moroccan minister, affirming that Morocco maintains good relations with both parties and calls for a peaceful solution to this conflict.
In a similar context, Bourita referred to the peace initiative proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky, among other initiatives, further noting that these initiatives should be centered around the promotion of a peaceful solution to this conflict.
The Ukrainian foreign minister’s visit to Morocco is the first visit by a Ukrainian Foreign Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Ukraine in 1992.
