‘’ Defending the fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union is a “priority” for Spain, especially following the decision of the EU Court on the agricultural and fisheries agreements signed with Morocco’’, the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, said in a statement.
He added that ‘’the fisheries agreement is a priority for Spain because of its importance for the fishermen of our country, especially for the fleets of Andalusia, the Canary Islands and Galicia’’.
He also recalled that Spain has 93 licenses, using different modalities, out of the 138 available in the EU, emphasizing the importance of the agreement for the future of Morocco-EU partnership relations.
‘’The preservation of the agreement will continue to strengthen bilateral relations with Morocco’’, the Spanish minister noted.
In this sense, he insisted that his government “will defend the interests of Spanish fishermen who carry out their activities in the Moroccan fishing areas”.
“Today, we are working together on the basis of trust to take all the necessary measures to defend our interests”, within the framework of the “positive cooperation of the EU with Morocco, which must be maintained from a strategic point of view, as it benefits both sides”, Mr. Planas concluded.
