In the context of several counter-terrorism operations undertaken across the Kingdom, around fifty people were arrested, with over twenty taken into custody.
Following a successful sweep on July 26 by brigades specializing in countering terrorism, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) and the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) took 21 individuals into custody for further investigation. These security operations carried out in several regions across the Kingdom, took place under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The people arrested had attracted the attention of specialized security services through actions that revealed their “allegiance to the extremist ideology of Daesh and al-Qaeda.”
Searches carried out at the homes of some of these individuals undercovered edged weapons, including cutlasses, axes, and clubs, in addition to books and manuscripts preaching jihad and documents containing guidelines for the manufacture of explosives.
