British Conservative parliamentarian, Liam Fox, stated, on July 19, that Israel’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is a “major breakthrough towards achieving peace in the Middle East.”
Fox emphasized that the vision and commitment to peace of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will elevate bilateral relations to a new level and convey a powerful message to the world, underlining that “the UK must join its allies and take a positive stand on this issue by supporting the autonomy plan, which is the only concrete way forward for the region.”
Similarly to Fox’s statement, member of the British House of Lords, Stuart Polak, noted, on July 18, that Israel’s recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara is a “positive sign,” adding that “we will be encouraging the British government to follow suit.”
The Royal Office reported, on July 17, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received a letter from the Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu, in which the Israeli Prime Minister informed His Majesty the King of Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of the Sahara.
Netanyahu underlined that Israel’s position is going to be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government,” emphasizing that this decision would be “communicated to the United Nations (UN), regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and all countries with diplomatic relations with Israel.”
In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister noted that Israel is positively considering “opening a Consulate in Dakhla” to implement Israel’s recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara.
