American policy analyst Samuel Millner stated that His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s message to participants at the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Marrakech demonstrates the Sovereign’s irreversible commitment to coexistence and pluralism.
Millner noted that the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, the only conference of this kind in the Arab and Islamic world, is a “powerful testament” to the Moroccan Monarchy’s “profound and long-standing” commitment to tolerance.
This interfaith initiative highlights His Majesty the King’s commitment to Morocco’s multicultural identity, with its Arab, Amazigh, African, Andalusian, and Hebrew affluents, and the Sovereign’s role as Commander of the Faithful and Custodian of religious freedom.
In this regard, Millner, a former analyst at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), pointed out that this commitment to tolerance and pluralism has positioned Morocco as a model for other countries plagued with violent extremism.
The American expert also cited other examples of Morocco’s commitment to pluralism and coexistence, recalling the Royal Decision to restore synagogues and establish the first-ever university synagogue in the Arab world.
Organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) with the Moroccan Parliament, in partnership with “Religions for Peace” and with the support of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Mohammedia League of Ulema, this conference was attended by parliamentarians, religious leaders, and representatives of civil society, who engaged in constructive dialogue and exchanged knowledge in an attempt to resolve the main problems preventing sustainable coexistence.
