Morocco’s airports hit a new record of 27,091,249 passengers during the year 2023, recording an increase of 32% compared to 2022, noted the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) in a press release.
This growth was driven by international traffic, which increased by 32% compared to 2022, reaching 24,429,325 passengers.
This performance is based on the inauguration of numerous new international air routes connecting various Moroccan airports such as Marrakech Menara, Agadir Al Massira, Rabat Salé, Oujda Angad, Fès Saïss, Tangier Ibn Battouta, Essaouira Mogador, Nador Al Aroui, and Guelmim, to various destinations including Bilbao, Doha, Luxembourg, Warsaw, Geneva, Düsseldorf, and many others.
In fact, the majority of Moroccan airports recorded double-digit growth rates compared to 2022. These include Marrakech (+41%), Rabat (+38%), Tetouan (+35%), Tangier ( +34%), Fez (+31%), Agadir (+30%), Nador (+22%) and Oujda (+10%).
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, which accounts for more than 36% of overall air traffic, welcomed 9,790,914 passengers, an increase of around +28% compared to 2022. However, this traffic remains lower than that recorded in 2019 when it exceeded 10 million passengers, representing a recovery rate of 95%.
This year, Nador El Aroui airport crossed, for the first time in its history, the threshold of one million passengers in December 2023, while the airport of Agadir Al Massira was able to exceed, once again, the threshold of 2 million passengers, after having reached this milestone for the first time in 2019.
