The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, and his Chinese counterpart, Tang Renjian, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of agriculture.
This memorandum aims to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and joint development between Morocco and China in the agricultural sector, enhance food security, and contribute to the economic development and well-being of the populations of both countries.
Cooperation between the Moroccan and Chinese Ministries of Agriculture covers several areas, including fisheries, aquaculture, seafood processing techniques, and organic farming, in addition to technologies for processing, storing, and transporting fruit and vegetables.
This cooperation also includes agricultural investment and trade, capacity building, and the development of human resources, know-how, technology, and innovation.
Cooperation between the two countries also covers agricultural consultancy, digitization, agricultural innovation, irrigation and water management techniques, and agricultural research.
“Through this memorandum, agricultural cooperation will be further strengthened between the two countries, particularly in the fields of agriculture and maritime fishing,” emphasized Sadiki.
For his part, Renjian stressed that this memorandum will enable Morocco to benefit from Chinese expertise and innovation, underlining that “this strengthened cooperation will enable us to exchange agricultural knowledge and practices and open up new prospects for agricultural development in Morocco.”
The Chinese minister added that agricultural cooperation between Morocco and China would be mutually beneficial, thanks to the similarities and complementarities between the two countries’ agriculture sectors.
In addition, the Chinese official expressed his confidence in the positive results that this memorandum of understanding (MoU) will achieve, which will help identify priority areas for both Morocco and China.
Renjian also recalled that his visit to Morocco is his first to an Arab and African country since his appointment as minister, which is a testament to China’s focus on promoting agricultural relations and cooperation with Morocco and the region as a whole.
