Under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the US Armed Forces kicked off, on June 5, the 19th edition of the African Lion Exercise, underway until June 16.
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) General Staff reported that an opening ceremony was held on June 5 at the South Zone Headquarters in Agadir to officially inaugurate this multinational joint exercise in the presence of several representatives of the participating countries.
On the occasion of this ceremony, this year’s theme and the different activities scheduled for this 19th edition were presented, which include the operational planning exercise for “Task Force” staff, tactical land, air, and sea, and combined day and night exercises, a combined special forces exercise, airborne operations, the military field hospital providing surgical-medical services for the population, and exercises to fight against weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
Scheduled to take place in seven Moroccan regions, namely Agadir, Tan-Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kénitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit, the “2023 African Lion” exercise is an annual event that contributes to strengthening Morocco-US military cooperation and encouraging exchanges between the armed forces of several countries to promote security and stability in the region.
