Ten years after Google Glass, Google is reviewing its copy. Without fanfare, the Mountain View company took advantage of its Google I / O developer conference on Wednesday to unveil a prototype of smart glasses (connected glasses) allowing to transcribe and translate a conversation in real time. And this is probably only the beginning.
Before igniting, several clarifications are necessary. This is a prototype with no release date or price. And no one has tested it to find out if it works as well as in the video full of emotion revealed.
Thanks to machine learning, Google has made great progress on real-time translation, as the interpreter mode launched on its Pixel smartphones has proven – and today adds 24 new languages to Google Translate, for a total of 133 supported . With this prototype of glasses, the company goes further, with a technology that fades a little more and allows you to be more present: the text of the translation is displayed directly on the lens of the glasses, like “coins -titles for the surrounding world,” says product manager Max Spear.
